Grenada Office of Creative Affairs Hosts Animation and Multimedia Masterclasses

The Grenada Office of Creative Affairs (GOCA) is proud to announce the start of its newest masterclass series, In Motion and In Focus, developed to assist emerging Grenadian talent in building sustainable creative careers. The month-long intensive masterclasses in animation and multimedia are presented in partnership with AnimaxFYB Studios, West Africa’s leading and award-winning animation and visual effects studio based in Accra, Ghana.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on Wednesday 5th November, Mr. Orlando Romain, Advisor w.r.f. the Creative Economy, noted the importance of pairing technical excellence with entrepreneurial capability as global demand for high-quality digital content grows. “Through these masterclasses, we are ensuring that our talented creatives are well-equipped to be competitive within the global creative economy. Our partnership with AnimaxFYB Studios opens up direct access to international markets, thus positioning our creative practitioners to take advantage of opportunities beyond Grenada.”

Mr. Francis Y. Brown, founder and creative director of AnimaxFYB Studios, is an award-winning filmmaker and one of Africa’s leading voices in animation. Commenting on the significance of this masterclass series, Brown shared: “This partnership represents a bold step toward bridging the creative and economic potential of Africa and the Caribbean. As one of the leading animation and multimedia studios on the continent, AnimaxFYB Studios remains deeply committed to building sustainable creative ecosystems that unlock real opportunities for the next generation. By aligning talent development with employability and innovation, we are not only transferring skills; we are creating value chains, new markets, and pathways for global collaboration. Together with the Grenada Office of Creative Affairs, we are demonstrating how South–South partnerships can drive shared prosperity, empower youth, and position our regions as strategic players in the global creative economy.”

Sen. the Hon. Adrian Thomas, Minister for Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture, in addressing the masterclass participants, encouraged them to make the most of this opportunity to learn from industry experts. “Our government continues to make significant investments in Grenada’s creative economy. Capacity building initiatives, like this masterclass series, are critical in our mission to move our creative industries forward. Our country is full of exceptional creative talent and potential and we are committed to providing targeted training to grow our creative landscape,” Minister Thomas explained. “I encourage you to embrace this opportunity to learn from acclaimed industry experts, take creative risks to strengthen your craft and remain open to collaboration.”

In Motion, the animation masterclass, is supported by Toon Boom, a global leader in pre-production and 2D animation software. Over the course of the masterclass, students will learn animation fundamentals, including storyboarding and character design.

In Focus, the multimedia masterclass, will focus on the fundamentals of commercial photography, videography and livestreaming. Additionally, students in both masterclasses will explore the audiovisual business ecosystem, the dynamics of media markets and the fundamentals of intellectual property, contracts and monetisation. Participants will also unpack distribution and financing models that help creative projects reach audiences and investors.
