The Grenada Office of Creative Affairs (GOCA) proudly announces the release of My Friend, the lead single written and performed by the young artistes from the inaugural Sing Grenada Music Summer Camp.
Launched in June this year, Sing Grenada is GOCA’s flagship national youth music programme designed to discover, mentor and empower the next generation of Grenadian musical talent. The two-part programme featured a school tour and music summer camp. The school tour, developed to expose secondary school students to careers in music and the creative industry, featured live performances from popular Grenadian musicians. A few weeks later, thirty-five (35) young artistes, ages 8 – 18, spent two weeks exploring songwriting, music production, performance and creative expression with some of Grenada’s top musicians and vocalists as their coaches.
“What set the Sing Grenada music camp apart was the experiential nature of the programme. Our young artistes were fully immersed in music, even working with local music producers to record their original songs in studio,” explained Jeverson. “My Friend is the first of five songs created during the summer camp to be released. We are incredibly proud of the students’ display of passion and creativity.”
My Friend tells a story of friendship and supporting each other during difficult times. Its release coincides with Grenada’s observance of Child Month, a month of advocacy to ensure children are safe and supported. My Friend, produced by Nordley Frederick and mixed and mastered by Xpert Productions, was written by Camron Charles, Lauryn Douglas, Gabrielle Woodroofe, Saraiah Abraham, Ella Williams, Ethan Edwards, and Akadiah Richardson with guidance from their coach, A#keem.
