We believe in the power of innovation and creativity as a transformative tool for our country’s success. That is why GOCA is committed to cultivating an environment where Grenada’s creative industries can flourish.
By laying the foundation now, we are working to secure a creative future for Grenada as the premier Caribbean destination for creative excellence, exploration and exchange.
To support Grenada’s creative ecosystem, Grenada Office of Creative Affairs focuses on four primary areas: Training, Financing Support, Advocacy and Awareness, and Policy and Strategy
Training and capacity development are critical for fostering excellence in Grenada’s creative industries. Recognizing this, Grenada Office of Creative Affairs facilitates opportunities to support and empower creative practitioners in their professional and entrepreneurial pursuits.
GOCA facilitates two kinds of workshops for creatives. Business development workshops are tailored for aspiring and professional creatives to provide them with the essential business skills and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s competitive landscape.
Workshop topics cover critical areas such as intellectual property, costing and pricing, recordkeeping, and marketing.
Professional workshops and masterclasses are sub-sector specific, providing creatives with exposure and opportunities to enhance their craft.
Through a Memorandum of Understanding with T.A. Marryshow College, GOCA provides scholarships to creatives to pursue specialised courses for the cultural and creative industries.
The courses, available as stand-alone subjects or part of the new associate degree in Cultural and Creative Industries, include Introduction to Entertainment Law, Introduction to Entrepreneurship for Creative Industries, Marketing & Communications, Digital Media, and Small Business Management for Creatives.
The cost of doing business, access to financing and limited industry specific financial products has historically been a major growth barrier for cultural and creative enterprises in Grenada.
To address financial challenges faced by Grenada’s creative economy, GOCA introduced two initiatives for economic incentives and funding support for creative entrepreneurs and businesses: Concessions for Creatives and the Cultural and Creative Industries Business Development Fund.
The Concessions for Creatives initiative provides an avenue for eligible practitioners and organizations within the creative economy and registered with Grenada Office of Creative Affairs to benefit from 100% concessions on Common External Tariff (CET) and Value Added Tax (VAT) on equipment and tools of trade.
This substantial concession alleviates some of the financial burdens experienced by creative enterprises, while supporting the growth and sustainability of the industry.
The Cultural & Creative Industries Business Development Fund was developed to help mitigate the challenges experienced by practitioners in the cultural and creative sectors in accessing traditional financing.
The fund, which is administered by the Grenada Development Bank, is positioned to support the growth and viability of creative enterprises by offering three financing solutions: Low Interest Loans, Grants and Business Support Vouchers.
In Grenada, the majority of creative enterprises are micro and small businesses; however, their impact on our country is undeniable.
As a champion for Grenada’s cultural and creative industries, GOCA advocates for the inclusion of the creative sector in national conversations and promotes the creative industries through our public awareness initiatives, including Creative Chronicles, the social media spotlight series, the Creative Careers School Tour, and the GOCA Creative Directory.
To become the Caribbean’s premier destination for creative excellence, exploration and exchange, policy and legislation must support the growth of Grenada’s creative economy.
In 2024, GOCA embarked on a landmark strategy project to develop a comprehensive strategic plan and policy framework for Grenada’s cultural and creative industries from which seven (7) strategic pillars for development were identified based on their cultural significance and growth.
The seven pillars are Audiovisual and Interactive Media, Arts (Visual and Literary) and Craft, Design and Creative Services, Festivals, Performing Arts and Celebration, Music, Gastronomy, and Beauty and Wellness.
